A Double Fold Self-Locking Washer is a specific type of washer that is used in various construction and assembly applications. It is designed to prevent a nut or bolt head from loosening with the vibration of the machine.
The unique feature of a Double Fold Self-Locking Washer is its two-fold design. The washer is usually split into two sections (hence the term “double fold”), and these sections are folded over to secure the bolt head or nut.
It works as follows: During assembly, the washer is placed on the bolt or stud. The nut is then threaded over this washer. Once the correct tension is reached, the sections of the washer are folded up into the sides of the nut. This action forms a lock, preventing the bolt or nut from rotating and loosening unintentionally.
These washers are very handy in applications where regular maintenance checks are difficult, like in heavy machinery or structural assemblies. Most importantly, they increase the safety and extend the lifetime of an assembly by maintaining tension therefore reducing the risk of structural failure.
