Description
An E-Clip, also known as a Circlip, C-Clip, or Snap Ring, is a type of retaining ring used to prevent lateral movement of a washer or a pin. It’s named “E-clip” because of its E-shaped design.
E-Clips are typically installed into a machined groove (in shafts, assembly housings, etc.) for rotational bearing assemblies or linear bearings to limit the movement of the components and secure them. They are often used in machinery, automotive industries, and various mechanical applications.
When installed, the semi-circular ‘open’ side of the E faces outwards, which allows for easy installation and removal from the assembly. They are designed to exert radial forces and provide a shoulder for effective assembly retention.
These clips are made from various materials like steel, stainless steel or carbon steel, each suited for different environments based on factors like temperature stability, corrosion resistance, etc. They also come in an assortment of sizes, providing engineers with numerous options to suit each specific requirement of their design.
