Description

What is Flange Nut?

A flange nut is a type of fastener that has a wide flange at one end, functioning as an integrated washer. This wide flange serves to distribute the pressure of the nut over a larger area, enabling the nut to secure the materials it is fastening more tightly. The flange nut thus provides more strength than standard nuts, reducing the risk of damage to the part and making it less likely to loosen as a result of an uneven fastening surface.

Flange nuts are commonly used in applications where a high level of holding power is required. Their unique design ensures that even if the fastening surface is uneven or if the hole is oversized, the flange will still be able to hold the nut securely in place.

There are also types of flange nuts called “lock flange nuts” which have a locking mechanism to prevent the nut from loosening, such as a nylon insert or a distorted thread, providing resistance when tightened down on a bolt thread.

Flange nuts come in various sizes, materials and also with serrated and non-serrated designs to fulfill diverse needs.
